Native Americans living on the rural and remote
reservations of the Northern Plains struggle daily with isolation, limited
employment opportunities, and a harsh and resource-poor environment. Poverty is
all too common and weighs most heavily on those who are most fragile - the
elderly, children, and families.
The American Indian Relief Council (AIRC), is a
program of National Relief Charities. that works to help Native Americans
improve the quality of their own lives by providing opportunities for them to
bring about positive changes in their own communities. Through a series of
programs AIRC offers Native Americans a helping hand, not a handout.
Today the Native American peoples are generally forgotten
by those who settled the land after them. Broken treaties, broken
promises, historical mistreatment, forced cultural changes, and reservation
living conditions the same as you would find in third world countries have left
